Maddie's Favorite Ranch Dip

Lots of wonderful fresh, crisp veg coming into season, so I thought I'd move this reader favorite recipe over to the new blog.

Mads will eat tons of carrot sticks and broccoli florets and whole basketfuls of grape tomatoes if she's got some of her fave homemade Ranch Dip for dipping. And since we're on Spring break, it's great to have a double portion of this stuff ready to go in the fridge to encourage both the big kids to eat their raw veg.

Maddie's Favorite Ranch Dip
Makes about 1 cup

Time: 10 to 15 minutes

- 1/2 cup sour cream or yogurt (or you can do half and half)
- 1/4 cup mayo
- 2 Tablespoons cream cheese, brought to room temperature (if you don't have cream cheese, you can just use a little more sour cream and/or yogurt and just a pinch more salt to adjust the seasoning - won't be as thick, but still super tasty)
- 1 Tablespoon chopped fresh dill (or 1 teaspoon dried - but if you don't like dill, parsley's also good. Or basil, if you like that. Or cilantro if you like that. Or...)
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- the green part of a green onion, chopped

All stirred together until completely and evenly incorporated.

If you like your dip a little more tart, try adding a teaspoon or two of white vinegar or fresh lemon juice.

Fresh tomatoes, cukes, broccoli, carrots, radishes, and sugar snap peas among other crunchy, yummy fresh veg go down a kid's gullet real easy with some of this stuff.

Enjoy. :)
