South of Nick's - San Clemente, CA in Pics

As you might already know, I don't post about it these days unless I would gladly go back.  South of Nick's continues to keep the bar high for service, quality of ingredients, and execution.

Mexican Mule - Cazadores reposado tequila, agave nectar,
fresh lime, ginger beer
La Paloma - Cazadores reposado tequila, Squirt, grapefruit juice

Sometimes you have to mentally compensate with one aspect of a restaurant's performance for slight relative underperformance in another in order to conclude that you like or love the place, but not so for Nick's. Each staff member you encounter is polite, friendly, and professional, and when the food comes out, it's equally satisfying.

It's Dean's favorite Mex or Mex-inspired restaurant at the moment, and as much as he loves Mex food, it is the highest praise.

Hope you enjoy the pics as much as we enjoyed our joint birthday lunch with LAM and MAP. (Descriptions from their menu.)

Pork Empanadas - corn masa, red chili sauce, lightly fried

Shrimp Taquitos - avocado salsa, blackened Mexican prawns,
chipotle Ranch
(Our sauces were served on the side due to LAM's dairy issues.)

My Ribeye Steak & Grilled Romaine - tomato, marinated onions,
roasted pepitas, jalapeño blue cheese dressing

LAM's & MAP's La Tablita - grilled Mexican prawns, prime ribeye,
citrus grilled chicken, refried beans, Spanish rice,
pico de gallo, guacamole, salsa quemada
(This could easily feed 3 or 4 moderate adult appetites.)

"I don't know what I ate today, but it was good."

Dean's Chimichanga de Mariscos - lobster, Mexican prawns, crab,
jack cheese, sour cream, refried beans, Spanish rice,
avocado, rolled and fried, red chile sauce

Izz trying to eat her "rice and bains" in peace.

Caramelized Banana Flan
(Texture's more like flan crossed with cheesecake)

Buen provecho! :)
